Hayley Axelrad is a Toronto-based artist whose paintings construct hedonistic, psychologically charged worlds that probe the myths surrounding success, luxury, and desire. Working primarily in oil, she uses humor and theatricality to stage scenes where indulgence and vulnerability coexist, revealing the tension between outward perfection and inner disquiet.
Axelrad studied classical realism at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto after completing a BA in Art History at McGill University, developing a rigorous technical foundation that underpins her distinctly irreverent visual language. Her work is characterized by bold color, thickly textured oil paint, and a matte, chalk-like surface that heightens the artificiality of her painted environments.
Her work has been exhibited in Toronto, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. In 2026, Axelrad presented a solo installation in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik at the brand’s Milan flagship boutique, featured in Vogue Italia. Additional press includes Elle Decor and The Globe and Mail.
